Traditional vs. Normal Drum Stick Grip
There are multiple little ways to grip a drum stick. Over time, many drummers have tried different things. One of the grips that changed over time was the traditional to normal grip. On the Vic Firth site, they show what they say is the proper grip. http://www.vicfirth.com/education/articles/wesselsgrip.html They show the normal grip on that page. Traditional grip was used by marching snare drummers in the wars, then by jazz drummers from the 20's on. http://www.learndrumsblog.com/14/how-to-hold-drumsticks-using-the-traditional-grip/ Eventually, as drum sets modernized, drummers used the normal grip as a more proficient way to play. It was quicker and it matched the right hand, so there was less dominance. http://drumsetfun.com/drumstick-grip-comfort.php
